Second Income: What are my options?

Many people want to earn a second income but don't want to work at a second job. What are their options? Well, I'm sorry to say that there aren't very many.

Now if that's just too much for you to consider, then you could make your spouse get a job or send your kids around the neighborhood with a lawn mower. It won't be long, however, when they decide they want to keep the money they are earning, and then you are left with only one income again. Yes, if you want a second income, you are going to have to work for it.

Does the work have to be hard? Not at all, it can actually be fun. Many people earn a second income doing the things they love to do. I know a teacher who loves to swim. She earns a second income as a lifeguard during the summer months when school is out. My friend makes the world's best meatballs. She earns a second income by making meatballs on the weekends and freezing them, and then sells them by the pound to her friends and coworkers. She actually does quite well. My father has a passion for photography. He earns a second income photographing weddings and special events. Of course, he invested a lot of money into good equipment too.

My brother is an engineer by day but loves to draw on his time off. He draws muscle cars and sells the originals on the internet. You can turn your talent into a second income. It doesn't matter what it is, there is a market for it. Consider these ideas. Are you:

* Good with children? How about home daycare or tutoring?

* A singer/songwriter? Hire yourself out to local nightclubs or writing jingles.

* A mathematics genius? I'm thinking - tax time!

* Good with animals? Pet sitter, pet trainer, dog walker, animal shelter.

* A computer wiz? So many of us aren't and will gladly pay for your expertise.

* A greenthumb? Many office buildings will pay you to water and care for their plants.

* A neat freak? Start a housekeeping or laundry service.

* Very compassionate? Check with your local charities, shelters, or Meals-on-Wheels for part time positions.

* Good at sports? How about a coaching job?

* Great with people? Sales could be your thing.

Is your talent listed here? If not, consider these questions. What is your passion? What are you good at? What makes you happy? The answer to any of these questions could put you on the road to earning a very nice second income.
