Genital Herpes Symptoms

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease that is usually passed with intimacy of one sort or another, and also can be passed within the family via genital herpes symptoms on the mouth.

Genital herpes symptoms can vary with the individual but usually includes blister like sores around the genital area or mouth but also can include the buttocks, under the arms and in other areas of the face. They usually start with a tingle in the area of the breakout and proceed to a blister, that then pops and ulcerates. The ulcerated blister is then extremely contagious due to fluid that it leaks.

Condoms are not a protection against herpes when someone has a breakout. In fact, during a breakout anyone with herpes must practice abstinence to avoid passing it to someone else. For those who get cold sores on the mouth they must be extremely conscientious of kissing, hugging, or other contact with individuals. In fact, genital herpes can occur anywhere on the body and during a breakout are extremely contagious but must have open tissue to open tissue such as sores in the mouth, nose, the vaginal area, anal tracts, or anywhere else on the body.

For some the symptoms can be a simple sore, a few days of pain and itching, and then the herpes virus retreats back into the nervous system. For others, multiple sores will develop and can attack several different areas within the body. This can result in dehydration, the inability to eat, and flu like symptoms that can cause hospitalization.

While there is no cure for the herpes simplex virus, there are medications that can help lessen the pain and the duration of a breakout. There are prescription medications such as pills and a cream, that can allow a person to control the outbreak, and in some, they can take suppression prescriptions to avoid breakouts altogether.

While vaccines for the virus are available in Europe there is no conclusive evidence as to their effectiveness. The United States has research trials going on on a constant basis hoping to find a cure for this virus. If you\'re interested in receiving a preventative vaccine or one that can help control a breakout you need to search out those research trials and participate.

With over 50 million people who have contracted the disease its at epidemic proportions and it is considered that many more people also have the disease but have never been treated or recognized. This means that over one in four women have contracted the disease and they need to be extremely careful during pregnancy as it can cause blindness and the infant. Genital herpes symptoms vary with everyone, and while blister like sore is the most evident, many more don\'t even know they have the disease.
