Electric Generators
Electric generators have become a necessity in many parts of the world where electrical power supplies are unreliable and/or sporadic. They are often used to power RVs,mobile homes, tent dwellings and any number of living spaces. On a much larger scale, commercial properties and even government properties like dams and nuclear power plants rely on electric power generators. Most industries make use of a genset, which is a full generator system set up near the equipment it powers. These are commonly found in larger construction sites throughout the world where a project may take several months or even years to complete.
Generally however, electric generators are small, free standing motorized units that can generate electrical energy for a variety of uses. Although large scale electric generators can be used to produce large amounts of electricity, people in the United States will often choose to purchase a portable electric generator in order to have electricity in areas where power sources are not readily available, such as in the wilderness or when camping.
Operating a small electric generator is fairly straightforward. The number of switches and settings can vary between models but most will operate appliances and tools operating at between 120 and 240 volts. Just flip the switch to the voltage you require. Most include features such as an electric starter, a low oil shut down device and an hour meter to show the hour usage and remaining running time before needing maintenance on the engine. They are usually powered by gasoline, diesel, propane or natural gas.
Generators can be very dangerous if used improperly. You would be smart to have a trained professional install any permanent back-up power systems for your home, and if you are re-wiring your house for an input, have a certified electrician set it up.
What's nice about electric generators is that they are available in power capacities ranging from 4500W to 70kw or more if needed. Services after purchase often include repair and maintenance including tune-ups for a number of years or after a certain number of running hours.
Electric generators are usually free standing motorized devices that use a single or three phase engine to produce an electrical current that can be used to power a number of different devices. They are perfect for the contractor or handyman working where an electric outlet isn't within reach. Don't limit the jobs you can do because of an electric outlet. More and more, contractors and handymen take their portable electric generator with them in their trucks to do jobs with power tools.
If you often experience power outage in your place, then an electric generator is really a good investment.
