Seats for boats are also known as fighting or fishing chairs. They are also called captain\'s boat seats, drop away seats and bucket boat seats. Fishing chairs can come in bench designs or can be collapsible. A leaning post is also sometimes technically called a boat seat or fishing chair. It gives those standing something to hang on when the going gets a little turbulent.

Fishing seats can be custom-designed to a boat owner\'s specifications. That may include fabric type, designs, color and shape. Tough marine grade fabrics that can stand up to harsh sunlight and salty water are necessary. Make sure the stitching is tough and strong. Gortex is commonly used. You might want to let your supplier determine the type of fabric your fishing chairs need. It\'s nice to be able to have a choice but never neglect toughness, functionality, safety and comfort when making your selections. In fact, it\'s often recommended that you stick to your choice of pattern and colors and leave the rest to the manufacturer.

Fishing chairs are often completely upholstered. Others are built  of wood and steel, or steel and cushions. Some are hard while others are soft. Boat seats come with or without armrests. Most people prefer arm rests that fold up when not needed. Some seats are padded with cushions that can double as makeshift life-preservers; others not. You just have to look at the many designs available through online Internet boat suppliers and catalogs.

Fishing chairs are often specially-designed for deep-sea fishing. They are often called fighting chairs because what you may find yourself doing after you land a large fighting fish from the sea. Other types of boat seats are designed to be comfortable. If the boat you own or are planning to buy doesn\'t have a lot of deck space, you might want to try foldaway boat seats. They are convenient and comfortable and can be stowed below deck when not needed. Portability is often very convenient on these types of boats.

Having a variety of seats and cushions on your boat with medium, firm or extra firm padding foam is best if you anticipate having a lot of passengers.

If you\'re planning to have wooden boat seats, make sure the wood is pressure-treated. Make sure also, that the steel bolts or staples used to make your fishing chairs are made with stainless steel. This will go a very long way in preventing rust and rusting streaks.

Fishing chairs are not just accessories that ensure the comfort of your passengers. They also can be an expression of your personality. Boat seats can be both functional and decorative. When looking for seating arrangements for your passengers, there are a large variety of cushions and boat seats available at your local or online boating supply store.
