Fishing Gear
Fishing gear is a dime a dozen. But, that does not mean that all fishing gear is good. Just like everything, there are good and bad pieces and parts. Some will bring home the lunkers and some will bring home nothing at all.
And, it all depends upon the type of equipment that one uses that will separate the fisherman from the non fisherman.
Experience is the absolute best teacher when deciding what to use. Whether it be lures, rods, reels, and tackle in general, one will not know exactly what will work until they try it.
When it comes to lures and bait in general, fish can be quite finicky at times and may hit on one type on one day, while on the next day, they may not hit on it at all. Then there are those lures that will work constantly and consistently day after day and time after time.
Certain rods are primarily used for certain types of fishing. Whether it be freshwater, fly, deep sea, salmon, or a host of other types of fishing, there is a specific rod for each and every type. Basically, there is no such thing as a rod for all occasions. Each are specific with strength, length, and manufactured material. Some are more sensitive then others therefore, choose wisely.
Reels are basically the same way. Many fisherman swear by a certain type and this is fine. But, there are different types that can be used for all types of fishing. From open faced to closed casting to fly to deep sea, there are many different types that are also specific. And, with these, not all are good. But, some are certainly great. This is probably when the majority of the fisherman's money will be spent. A very good real can be quite pricey but, it will also be worth it.
When fishing from a boat, one would want a couple of accessories that would assist them. Things such as a live well, fish finder, and trolling motor is usually as important and part of the basic fisherman's equipment. A live well will keep any catches alive and fresh until one finishes and gets to shore. A sonar fish finder will aid one in searching and locating the big fish. A trolling motor is both quiet and will enable maneuverability very accurately. This enables a fisherman to get into all the nooks and crannies of an area without destroying their main motor blades on hidden underwater debris.
Therefore, when discussing fishing gear, they is quite a bit to talk about and some of it may even create arguments between fishermen. Fore, it is usually a matter of choice and what works for one may not work for another.
