Baby walkers allow infants who can sit up sit up but not yet walk by themselves move around by themselves. Generally they are a frame with a seat in the center that is mounted on castors. Baby walkers are not a good substitute for a caregiver. Always supervise a baby in a baby walker and don\'t let your baby play in one for more than 30 minutes at a time.

Your baby sits in the center of the walker strapped into a plastic molded seat.

In the mid 1990s, data showed more children were being injured with baby walkers than any other nursery product. Children should stop using baby walkers when they start walking.

Baby walkers are not intended as a learning device for walking, and prolonged use potentially interferes with the development of a child\'s walking abilities. Baby walkers can be dangerous in some situations. It is now against the law to sell, advertise and import baby walkers in Canada. Baby walkers are no longer being made in Canada. Many pediatricians and some parents recommend using an activity center without wheels and throw out the walker if you have one.

Baby walkers keep curious children -- and their parents -- happy, but that peace and quiet comes at a price. Babies are able to propel themselves even though they can\'t walk or crawl and some are worried that it might delay an infant\'s normal motor development. Baby walkers do not help your baby to walk earlier. In fact, they often delay walking.  Abe Bergman, director of pediatrics at Harborview Medical Center, says he and colleagues intend to submit a petition to the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission seeking the ban.

Baby walkers cause more injuries yearly than any other baby product, said the American Academy of Pediatrics. Six children in walkers have hurt themselves .[4]

On the other hand, many people say baby walkers are fun for babies because they allow them to be upright and totally mobile before he or she can walk.

Many baby walkers have snack trays with toys and drink holders similar to a high chair.
