Recreational After School Programs

After school programs typically fall under three main categories including academic, recreational and social. Children are more likely to succeed in all aspects of life if they have a balance between their physical well-being and mental well-being as well as their education. Recreational after school programs are designed to help keep kids physically fit. There are many physical activities that kids can participate in after school including football, swimming and basketball. However, more and more programs are offering other choices such as gymnastics and hiking.

Many children need to burn off some of their energy after being in a classroom all day long. They need to be able to de-stress and unwind and just have the opportunity to run around and be kids. However, these types of programs also offer structure which is important to teach kids. In order to prevent kids from being physically lethargic it is important to encourage kids to be physically active. The risk of obesity and diabetes is growing rapidly among children in the United States. These are serious problems that can have some very serious consequences. Participating in regular exercise is a great way to help prevent kids from having these types of health issues.

Even though recreational programs are not as mentally stimulating as educational programs the kids that participate are still helping their mental well-being. It has been proven that kids who are more physically active are also more mentally active. Recreational programs can also help to teach kids some very important lesson that will help them succeed in life such as discipline, teamwork and far play.

Another great benefit of recreational after school programs is that it is a great way for children to socialize. Many kids don't have much of a social life because they simply go to school and come home and hang out by themselves. However, it is important for children to learn these skills and these recreational programs are a great place to learn them. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts teach kids about community and friendship and teach them a sense of self pride as well. There are also some programs like survival classes that have been developed to teach kids emergency skills.

No matter what type of after school program a child participates in, the number one goal is to provide them a safe, drug-free environment where they can go and participate in an activity that interests them. Kids need to have something to do otherwise they become bored and start to get into trouble. Recreational after school programs help to provide kids with the necessary physical activity that all kids need. Being physically fit allows kids to be more mentally fit. If they can burn off their energy they can easily go to school then next day and be mentally able to focus on their school work. Be sure to take into account your child's physical ability and temperament before choosing a program.
